Top 5 – Trailers from Comic Con 2016
Comic Con 2016 happened last weekend and because of this, we got our first peak at some of the most exciting movies coming out within the next year or so. There were a lot of cool, expected trailers that dropped, even a few surprises here and there. Here are my picks for the best trailers from Comic Con 2016.

5 – LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE
Look, I know what you’re thinking. “Why is a Nickelodeon original T.V. movie on this list?” You’ll most certainly be asking that question as you read down the list, as I left off more popular trailers like The Justice League and Kong: Skull Island. But, watching this Legends of the Hidden Temple trailer immediately brought me back to when I was six years old. I grew up watching this show and absolutely loving it. This movie, though a kids movie, looks like a blast, bringing in all great things that I loved about the show; fun, adventure, learning, silver snakes, Olmec, and Kirk Fogg. If this movie came out in theaters, best believe I would be there opening night. But, since it’s not, it will definitely be a staple on my DVR.

4 – SNOWDEN
Kind of an odd platform for this one. Comic Con is typically for fun action and comic book movies, not political Oscar films. But, Oliver Stone dropped by San Diego and gave everyone a new look at his political thriller. Snowden follows the infamous N.S.A whistleblower Edward Snowden (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) as he goes from being an American patriot to being wanted for treason. Levitt looks spectacular in a performance that could garner him awards attention, and the rest of the cast, featuring Shaileen Woodley, Melissa Leo, Rhys Ifans, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, and Nicholas Cage is a who’s who of talent. Stone hasn’t made a truly great movie in over a decade, but Snowden looks like it might get him him off the snide.

3 – BLAIR WITCH
Well this one came out of nowhere. Lionsgate, the studio producing the movie, flew this film under the radar by originally titling it The Woods. But, when the trailer dropped, it became evident that Lionsgate had pulled a fast one on us and made a sequel to 1999’s The Blair Witch Project. In my opinion, The Blair Witch Project is one of the most important films ever made, as it is a staple in the Found Footage genre as well being a perfectly made, micro-budget horror film. This film, which takes a group of kids back into the woods of the original to find one of the boys’ sisters who disappeared years ago, looks relentlessly scary. It helps that director Adam Wingard is one of the best horror directors today, having made You’re Next (2012), The Guest (2014) and segments in the V/H/S films. It looks like we have another film that could rival The Conjuring 2 as the best horror film of 2016.

2 – THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE
The LEGO Movie (2014) was a surprise smash and one of the most creative and funniest animated movies of the decade. Batman (voiced by Will Arnett) was one of the standouts in the film, with his hilarious cockiness, impeccable musical talent, and usual Batman badassness. Well now, he gets his own movie, and it looks perfect. Keeping the same meta, irreverent humor from The LEGO Movie, Batman must stop the Joker (Zach Galifianakis) with the help of Robin (Michael Cera) and Alfred (Ralph Fiennes). It also looks like we get some Justice League action in there, which could be awesome and will probably be better than anything from Batman v. Superman. Chalk this one up as my most anticipated animated movie of 2017.

1 – WONDER WOMAN
For my money, Wonder Woman was the best part of Batman v. Superman. Whether she was reading e-mails from Bruce Wayne or kicking the holy shit out Doomsday, she lit up the screen when she was on. This trailer blew me away. It doesn’t look like a comic book movie. This looks more like a Ridley Scott epic in the same vein as Gladiator (2000). Director Patty Jenkins is the perfect choice to direct this film, as it looks dark, gritty, exciting, and filled with badass action. And Gal Gadot looks spectacular as the princess of the Amazons. The DC Cinematic Universe is off to an extremely rocky start, with the less than mediocre Man of Steel (2013), the terrible Batman v. Superman, and the huge question mark that is Suicide Squad. Wonder Woman looks like it is going to be a surefire hit and a launching pad for female comic book heroes.
